My Story
Fate has always known where I was headed (even when I didn’t).
My journey from childhood astrology enthusiast to professional practice has been filled with unexpected turns, nudges from the universe, and profound moments of recognition.
Here's how it unfolded, of course, in perfect timing.
Like all good stories, mine began with childhood snooping and a dusty old book
It was the ‘Good Fortune Birthday Book’ I discovered when I was ten years old, tucked away on our family bookshelf. Inside was a world of planets and zodiac signs that completely captivated me.
That chance discovery sparked something I couldn't explain, a feeling that I'd stumbled upon something profound that just made sense to a soulful and intuitive little Pisces rising. Perhaps it's no coincidence because my heritage is Māori and Scottish, both cultures with deep, ancestral ties to land, lineage, and place, and even then, something in me was drawn to a practice built on exactly that.
But growing up in Sydney in the 80s and 90s meant my fascination with astrology wasn't exactly considered the coolest hobby... "woo woo" was the polite description.
And that childhood fascination stayed with me for decades, quietly simmering in the background while I pursued a more conventional path.
The universe has perfect timing (and mine arrived during a New York breakdown)
Fast forward to my late 30s. I found myself accomplishing an ambitious dream to work in New York - but I was completely burnt out, unhealthy, exhausted and wondering why I had pursued these conventional choices of important job title, income and status when I wasn't happy, or worse, I wasn't doing work that felt deeply meaningful.
It was during my nodal return (an astrological turning point that tends to nudge, or sometimes shove, you back toward your true purpose) that I returned to Australia and quit not just my job…but my entire career. I then promptly booked in my first professional astrology consultation with renowned astrologer, Kelly Surtees.
And that consultation changed the course of my life.
How could she possibly know such deeply personal things about me? I wondered if I'd accidentally booked a psychic instead of an astrologer.
That was my first thought as this incredible stranger revealed deeply personal insights about my life patterns, challenges, and gifts. Kelly told me enthusiastically: “Tremaine, your mission is to heal, educate, uplift and inspire others”.
I felt truly seen. Raw parts of my psyche validated and my purpose confirmed in ways I couldn't dismiss.
Mission accepted.
This session reawakened the spark I'd carried since childhood. So in 2019, I began studying traditional astrology with Kelly Surtees and later with Chris Brennan, two of the most respected teachers in the field today. I have also studied under Austin Coppock, Samuel Reynolds and Kira Ryberg - all outstanding pillars of astrology teaching which has helped round out the extensive timing techniques I practice today.
Once I experienced the transformative power of a truly insightful astrology consultation, I knew it was my calling to offer these same moments of recognition and impact to others.
How supporting people through crisis prepared me for this work
My path to astrology took a meaningful detour, from property development marketing and the New York breakdown through to community services, where for nearly a decade I’ve supported individuals and families experiencing family and domestic violence and homelessness.
Alongside my astrological practice, I continue to work as a financial wellbeing coach, supporting women to rebuild financial confidence and work towards greater financial independence after experiencing the financial impacts of family and domestic violence.
This work continues to teach me how to truly listen, hold space for complex emotions, and support people with dignity during their most vulnerable moments.
This foundation makes my astrological practice different. I bring the same careful listening, emotional intelligence, and practical guidance to our work together.
